RESOLUTION NO. 050224
Designating
Thursday, February 24, 2005, as Mexican Diplomats Day in Kansas City.
WHEREAS, Kansas City, Missouri enjoys an effective and increasingly fruitful relationship with Mexico, its leaders and its people; and
WHEREAS, the
decision of the Mexican government to choose Kansas City as the location of a
Mexican Consulate and other important offices serving surrounding Midwestern
states signifies the value of the diplomacy between Kansas City and Mexico;
and
WHEREAS, Kansas
City, Missouri, has hosted and attended trade missions with the Mexican cities
of Manzanillo, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Morelia and Mexico City; and
WHEREAS, Kansas
City and Manzanillo, Mexicos deep water Pacific port, have collaborated on and
signed a historic trade agreement; and
WHEREAS,
numerous trade initiatives and tourism agreements exist between municipalities
in Mexico and Kansas City; and
WHEREAS, Kansas
City has been selected as the site of the first Customs facility outside
Mexico, and Mexico chose Kansas City as the location of their annual diplomatic
meeting, February 23-25, 2005; and
WHEREAS, more
than 70 diplomats are converging here; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council hereby designate Thursday, February 24, 2005, as Mexican Diplomats
Day in Kansas City; and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that a copies hereof be presented to the Honorable Luis
Ernesto Derbez, Mexicos Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Geronimo Gutierrez,
Undersecretary for North America, Carlos Icaza, Ambassador to the United
States, Josefina Vazquez Mota, Secretary of Social Development, and all those
participating in the annual diplomatic meeting held in Kansas City, Missouri,
with the best wishes and warm welcome from the Mayor, Council and citizens of
Kansas City.
