ORDINANCE NO. 970474
Authorizing the Director of Public Works to enter into an
agreement with Deffenbaugh Industries, Inc., to extend for one month the
existing contract for collection and disposal of refuse in the northern and
southern zones of the City, for a period beginning May 1, 1997 and ending May
31, 1997, at the rate of $2.79 per household per month, and authorizing the
Director to expend a sum not to exceed $205,000.00 for this purpose from funds
to be appropriated in the 1997-98 budget.
WHEREAS, it may be beneficial to the citizens to
allow an additional opportunity for competitive bidding on the residential
refuse collection service for the northern and southern zones of the City; and
WHEREAS, the existing contract for services expires
on April 30, 1997, thus not providing sufficient time for the bidding process;
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
Section 1. That the Director of Public Works is hereby
authorized to enter into an agreement with Deffenbaugh Industries, Inc., to
extend for one month the existing contract for collection and disposal of
refuse in the northern and southern zones of the City, for a period beginning
May 1, 1997 and ending May 31, 1997, at the rate of $2.79 per household per
month. A copy of the agreement is on file in the office of the Director of
Environmental Management and is incorporated herein by reference.
Section 2. That all other provisions of the
previous contract shall remain in force.
Section 3. That the Director is hereby authorized
to expend for this purpose a sum not to exceed $205,000.00 from Account No.
98-100-085-2300-B from funds to be appropriated in the 1997-98 budget.

I hereby certify that there is a balance, otherwise
unencumbered, to the credit of the appropriation to which the foregoing
expenditure is to be charged, and a cash balance, otherwise unencumbered, in the
treasury, to the credit of the fund from which payment is to be made, each
sufficient to meet the obligation hereby incurred.
