RESOLUTION NO. 080866

Directing the City Manager and the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners to develop a volunteer policy.

WHEREAS, the City enjoys the benefits of volunteers participating in many types of activities; and

WHEREAS, an administrative regulation setting forth appropriate rules and regulations will guide the departments in appropriately integrating volunteers into the work of the departments; and

WHEREAS, a single policy may not be appropriate for the many varied activities in which volunteers provide service to the City, thus requiring a detailed study of the needs of various departments; and

WHEREAS, the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners is responsible for many volunteer opportunities; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

Section 1. That the City Manager is directed to establish an administrative regulation for the proper implementation of volunteer programs within the Citys departments.

Section 2. That the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners will establish appropriate rules for the implementation of volunteer programs within the Parks and Recreation Department.

Section 3. That the City Manager will offer assistance to the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners so that policies adopted by the City Manager and the Board will be, insofar as appropriate, consistent.
