RESOLUTION NO. 170143

 

Recognizing the Miss Kansas City Scholarship Organization for its significant impact on today’s young women to empower them to achieve their personal and professional goals.

 

WHEREAS, the Miss Kansas City Scholarship Organization was founded in 2016 as a non-for-profit, achievement-based organization; and

 

WHEREAS, the Miss Kansas City Scholarship Organization encourages city pride, community service and education, where young women are challenged to be fully immersed in their community and their causes; and

 

WHEREAS, young women develop platforms which emphasize the importance of their cause and they work out solutions for them. Platforms include Type 1 Diabetes Awareness, Advocacy for Adults with Developmental Disabilities, Suicide Prevention, Clothing Recycling Programs and many others, which help the community; and

 

WHEREAS, the Miss Kansas City Scholarship has several category winners: 2017 Miss Kansas City Ashley Thakur, 2017 Miss City of Fountains Mikaela Carson, 2017 Miss Crown City Holly Enowski, 2017 Miss Kansas City’s Outstanding Teen Kaitlyn Rigdon and 2017 Miss City of Fountains’ Outstanding Teen Kylie Haas; and

 

WHEREAS, winners of the local titles continue to compete at the Miss Missouri Pageant with the Miss Missouri organization being a preliminary pageant for the Miss America Pageant; and

 

WHEREAS, the Miss America Organization is one of the largest providers of scholarship assistance for young women and partners with Children’s Miracle Network to raise funds and awareness to children’s hospitals. Each new Miss America becomes a goodwill ambassador to the Children’s Miracle Network; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize the Miss Kansas City Scholarship Organization for their contribution in inspiring confidence and leadership in young women of Kansas City; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Kari Rich, Executive Director of the Miss Kansas City Pageant, in token of the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for many years of dedicated service and their best wishes for all the years to come.
