RESOLUTION NO. 060675

Supporting the concept of renaming Grand Boulevard in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri from 3rd Street to 22nd Street as Grand Boulevard of the Americas and decorating a section thereof with the flags of member nations of the Organization of American States (OAS).

WHEREAS, Mr. Jim Malouff has proposed the idea of renaming Grand Boulevard from 3rd Street to 22nd Street as Grand Boulevard of the Americas and decorating a section thereof with the flags of member countries of the Organization of American States; and

WHEREAS, such a boulevard may help to promote tourism and support Kansas Citys efforts to be become a hemispheric trade center; and

WHEREAS, the dedication festivities for the boulevard would provide an excellent opportunity for the City to host a conference of OAS ambassadors and their trade representatives; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the City Council:

1. Supports in principle, together with the International Committee and International Affairs and Trade Division, the concept of a Grand Boulevard of the Americas, and declares the idea to be worthy of study;

2. Appropriates no funds for the concept at this time.
