RESOLUTION NO. 051202

 

Expressing the Mayor and Councils support for the KC Safe City Initiatives Safe School Zone Project with the Local Investment Commission that is building a public safety model for all the Citys schools and recognizes that safety can insure an atmosphere where learning is valued.

 

WHEREAS, Resolution No. 020452 approved the KC Safe City Initiative Plan as a guide for making Kansas City, Missouri, one of the safest cities in the country and a plan adopted as a policy for ways in which to make Kansas City safer; and

 

WHEREAS, the KC Safe City Initiative Plan recognizes that collaboration between City Departments, public safety agencies, organizations, neighborhoods and the community can be an effective way to focus efforts to address the safety, health and quality-of-life each neighborhood identifies as most important, and

 

WHERAS, the education of our young people should be a priority of our entire community; and

 

WHEREAS, the KC Safe City Initiative and LINC Caring Communities are collaborating at seven pilot project schools that includes, Crestview Elementary, Woodland Elementary, James Elementary, McCoy Elementary, Ladd Elementary, Troost Elementary and Santa Fe Elementary to develop a model of safety; and

 

WHEREAS, opportunities for the parents of our school children, neighborhood residents, principals and teachers, the police department, city service departments, prosecutors offices, health commissions, faith-based organizations, businesses and others has now increased to work together to reduce and/or eliminate hazards and risks that might threaten our school children; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby express our support for the mission, goals and objectives, and work performed through this collaboration strategy that is placing a priority on the health, safety and education of one of Kansas Citys most cherished assets, our children; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the KC Safe City Initiative and LINC.
