RESOLUTION NO. 160717

 

Honoring Community Assistance Council on the occasion of its 40th year of incorporation serving the south Kansas City community.

 

WHEREAS, in 1971, Community Assistance Council was started as a partnership of area congregations who believed that by working together, they could better help their neighbors in need and realizing that there was a growing need in the south Kansas City area, Community Assistance Council was incorporated on September 13, 1976; and

 

WHEREAS, over the years, the Community Assistance Council has significantly increased the scope and range of services, as well as the area served, Community Assistance Council has remained dedicated to the mission of empowering individuals and families to achieve self-sufficiency through the delivery of direct emergency assistance, education and advocacy; and

 

WHEREAS, Community Assistance Council provides a large array of vital services to the community that include a food pantry, an allergy-free food pantry, Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program, a clothes closet, rent and utility assistance, case management services, Meals on Wheels and medical, dental and optical assistance. In addition, seasonal programs include a holiday store, Thanksgiving food, school supplies and fans during the summer and blankets during the winter and computers are available for online job searches; and

 

WHEREAS, Community Assistance Council believes in stretching its resources, the agency continues its legacy of collaboration by partnering with other agencies to ensure services reach struggling residents in south Kansas City. Partners include the Mid-America Regional Council, LINC, Vocational Rehabilitation, Kansas City’s Medicine Cabinet, Food Equality Initiative, the University of Missouri Extension, First Baptist Church and Harvesters, as well as area churches that continue their long-time support; and

 

WHEREAS, Community Assistance Council is able to continue to provide services in the community with a small staff because of strong community backing, a dedicated Board of Directors and over 80 volunteers; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor Community Assistance Council on the occasion of its 40th year of incorporation serving the south Kansas City community; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Community Assistance Council with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for the outstanding service being provided to our community.
