RESOLUTION NO. 050485

Honoring M. Ali Almai on the occasion of his retirement after 20 years 8 months of service to the citizens of Kansas City, Missouri.

WHEREAS, M. Ali Almai was employed with private engineering firms from 1968 1983, before beginning employment with Kansas City on August 6, 1984 as a Professional Engineer I in the Water Services Department; and

WHEREAS, M. Ali Almai was promoted to Professional Engineer II in the Water Services Department on August 5, 1985, promoted to Professional Engineer III on December 12, 1987, and became an Engineer Section Head on May 21, 1990; and

WHEREAS, M. Ali Almai was then promoted to Engineer Division Head on October 24, 1999; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure with the City, M. Ali Almai worked on such major projects as the 85-mgd secondary wastewater treatment facilities including aeration basins, final clarifiers, sludge pumping stations, plant effluent pumping station, and outfall sewer; a 100-mgd wastewater pumping station, including trash screens, mechanical bar screens, shredders, magnetic flow metering, and the 72-inch diameter force main; and the Missouri River Tunnel, which provides a second distribution feeder for water supply south of the Missouri River. He led the establishment and growth of the Stormwater Utility Division, which is responsible for stormwater management services citywide, and he was instrumental in its success; and

WHEREAS, M. Ali Almai is known and respected for his creativity in problem-solving, efficiency in managing complex projects, contract negotiations, and his great sense of humor; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby extend to Mr. M. Ali Almai, on the occasion of his retirement from City service, the heartiest best wishes for his future, together with their most sincere appreciation for his 20 years 8 months of dedicated service to the citizens of Kansas City; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony hereof, and that a copy hereof be presented to Mr. Almai in token of their respect and high regard and their best wishes for a long and happy retirement which he so richly deserves.
