RESOLUTION NO. 910520, AS FURTHER AMENDED

Advising the Board of Zoning Adjustment that the use permit currently pending is inconsistent and not in the best interest of the City in its long-term waste management goals pursuant to former policy adopted by the Council.

..P

WHEREAS, the Board of Zoning Adjustment is presently considering an application for a use permit by Laidlaw, Inc. to authorize the use of certain property north of Hodge Park as a landfill; and

WHEREAS, the establishment of a privately-owned and operated landfill within the corporate limits of this City is inconsistent with the policy established by this Council in 1988 to establish a publicly-owned and controlled landfill; and

WHEREAS, the opening of a landfill, without first establishing a comprehensive waste management and recycling program is inconsistent with the prior policy; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That this Council advises the Board of Zoning Adjustment that the use permit currently pending is inconsistent and not in the best interests of the City in its long-term waste management goals pursuant to former policy adopted by the City Council; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk is directed to provide copies of the foregoing to the Chairman and members of the Board of Zoning Adjustment and to the Director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
