RESOLUTION NO. 100538
Honoring
James K. Walton for his invaluable hard work monitoring flooding conditions
while serving the citizens of Kansas City, Missouri.
WHEREAS, James Walton
works in the Stormwater Utility Division of the Water Services Department as a
Registered Engineer; and
WHEREAS, one of
James’ primary duties is that of City Hydrologist monitoring the metropolitan
area’s 174 joint Flood Warning System sites used to detail flooding conditions,
their timing and severity. This system can leverage 45 minutes to 18 hours of
lead time to respond before dangerous flooding occurs and threatens public
safety and property during rain events; and
WHEREAS, James,
who has been instrumental in strategically expanding the flood monitoring
system, faces many challenges during rain events and works closely with various
City departments, such as the Office of Emergency Management, the Fire
Department, the Police Department, the Parks and Recreation Department, the
Public Works Department, the Water Services Department, in addition to the
National Weather Service to monitor areas needing barricades or evacuations,
thus assisting in saving the lives of citizens; and
WHEREAS, James frequently responds, on very
short notice, at all hours of the day or night, as well as on weekends,
holidays, and even while on vacation, to monitor and provide warnings of
potential flood situations; and
WHEREAS, much appreciation has been
noted by City staff for James’ hard work, long hours, and passion for doing an
excellent job in monitoring flooding conditions; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council do hereby congratulate Mr. James K. Walton for all of his
invaluable hard work monitoring flooding conditions while serving the citizens
of Kansas City; and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and a copy hereof be presented to Mr. Walton in token of the
Mayor and Council’s appreciation for Mr. Walton’s accomplishments and service
to the City.
