RESOLUTION NO. 960503

 

Supporting the proposal concept by Buster Simpson for artwork at the new Health Department facility as part of the City's One-Percent-For-Art Program.

 

WHEREAS, the City has adopted Ordinance No. 60321 and Resolution No. 52393 for the purpose of establishing a program that sets aside one percent of the capital improvement projects to commission an artist to create an original work of art for specified building projects; and

 

WHEREAS, the Municipal Art Commission appointed an Artist Selection Panel for the new Health Department art project which included the Director of the Health Department, arts professionals, community representatives, business leaders and project architects; and

 

WHEREAS, Buster Simpson was selected by the Artist Selection Panel for the new Health Department art project, and is a nationally recognized artist, and has proposed a series of sculptural vessels containing medicinal and herbal plantings and a fountain to be sited in the interior and exterior of the new Health Department; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the City of Kansas City, Missouri, through its City Council, support the artist's concept for artwork at the new Health Department facility.
