RESOLUTION NO. 100823

 

Declaring Jeanette Richard Miles to be the "First Lady of Kansas City" for the month of October, 2010.

 

WHEREAS, the “First Lady of Kansas City” award was created for women who have made outstanding contributions to the community and to her family; and

 

WHEREAS, this award is given to a woman who has consistently served the needs of others, while frequently going unnoticed herself; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Jeanette Miles is such a “First Lady”; and

 

WHEREAS, Jeanette was born July 5th in Mt. Holly, Arkansas, the oldest of four children born to Mr. and Mrs. Jeffie L. Richard, wife of Reverend John “Modest” Miles, Pastor of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, and the mother of three adult children, Gerald Miles, Janet Miles and Reverend Derrick Miles and the proud grandmother of five granddaughters and one grandson; and

 

WHEREAS, Jeanette graduated from New Hope High School of Mt. Holly, Arkansas and furthered her education at the University of Arkansas and graduated from Philander Smith College in Little Rock with a B.A. degree and Quachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas with a M.S. degree in Education; and

 

WHEREAS, Jeanette taught in the Little Rock School for 16 years prior to joining the Kansas City, Missouri School District where she was an elementary teacher at Askew Elementary School and taught for the past 23 years before retiring on June 30, 2010; and

 

WHEREAS, Jeanette is very active in the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church where she sings in the Sanctuary Choir and Ladies Chorus, is a member of the Women’s Missionary Union and teaches Sunday School, is a member of the Ministers Wives Auxiliary of the New Era District Association, and is an eloquent Christian speaker; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare Jeanette Richard Miles to be the "First Lady of Kansas City" for the month of October, 2010; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Jeanette Richard Miles with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for her outstanding contributions to the community.
