Recognizing
the Black Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS - Season of Hope Day
WHEREAS, the Black
Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS of Greater Kansas City mobilizes
area churches to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS; and
WHEREAS, the Black
Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS is a faith-based initiative
supported by the Calvary Community Outreach Network; and
WHEREAS, the Black
Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS advocates for effective HIV/AIDS
services in the African-American community; and
WHEREAS, the Season
of Hope Day was initiated by the Black Church Week of Prayer Steering Committee
as a continuation of its HIV/AIDS awareness efforts, and
WHEREAS, the Season
of Hope Day serves as an opportunity for all sectors of the Kansas City
community to become more supportive, aware and involved in the effort to reduce
the spread of HIV/AIDS in the African American community; and
WHEREAS, the Reverend
Donald Gilmore Leadership Award presented at the Season of Hope
Luncheon recognizes leadership by a community volunteer who advocates for
HIV/AIDS services in the African-American community; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and
Council hereby declare November 18, 2005, as the Black Church Week of Prayer -
Season of Hope Day; and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Reverend Eric Williams
and Reverend David Gilmore, Co-Chairmen of the Black Church Week of Prayer for
the Healing of AIDS of Greater Kansas City and to the Calvary Community
Outreach Network, in appreciation by the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas
City for their dedication and support for the healing of AIDS in our community.
