COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR RESOLUTION NO. 920449

 

Directing the City Manager to investigate and report to the City Council on the cost savings, effect on personnel and potential timetable in which the merger of certain administrative departments and functions can be accomplished.

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby direct the City Manager to investigate and report to the Council the potential cost savings, effect on personnel and timetable in which the merger and consolidation of the following administrative departments and functions could be accomplished:

 

Vehicle Maintenance: Merger of the vehicle maintenance functions of the Public Works, Parks and Police Departments.

 

Personnel: Merger of personnel functions between the Personnel Office of the City of Kansas City, Missouri and the Personnel Office of the Police Department of the City of Kansas City, Missouri.

 

Purchasing: The establishment of a centralized purchasing system for all departments of the City of Kansas City, Missouri to handle in a centralized fashion the purchasing of all goods and services utilized by the various departments of the City of Kansas City, Missouri, examples being: office supplies, vehicle auto parts, gasoline, computer equipment and any other goods and services utilized by the various departments of the City of Kansas City, Missouri and including but not limited to the aforementioned areas.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this report shall be prepared within sixty (60) days of the adoption of this Resolution and presented to the City Council of Kansas City, Missouri for subsequent discussions between the City Council of Kansas City, Missouri, the Board of Police Commissioners of the Police Department of Kansas City, Missouri, and the Board of the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Kansas City, Missouri, said discussions to take place with the goal of consolidation and greater efficiency within the operation of the City of Kansas City, Missouri.
