ORDINANCE NO. 190578

 

Amending Chapter 2, Code of Ordinances, entitled “Administration”, by repealing Section 2-47 and enacting in lieu thereof a new section of like number and subject matter that changes the date for the oath of office to conform with the mayoral term.

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

Section 1.  That Chapter 2, Code of Ordinances, entitled “Administration”, is hereby amended by repealing Section 2-47 and enacting in lieu thereof a new section to read as follows: 

 

Sec. 2-47. Taking of oath by mayor.

 

(a) Generally. The mayor shall take the oath of office, to be administered by the City Clerk or other officer authorized to administer oaths, in the presence of the council and so many citizens as may desire to be present, on August 1 following the Mayor’s election. If August 1 falls on Sunday, then the oath of office shall be administered on August 2.

 

(b) Vacancy in mayor's office. If the mayor has been elected to fill a vacancy in the mayor's office, the mayor shall take the oath of office as soon as practicable after the election, but before commencing upon the duties of mayor.
