RESOLUTION NO. 080348
Recognizing
the dedication and hard work of Bill Markey to the City of Kansas City,
Missouri and the Fairness in Construction Board.
WHEREAS, Bill
Markey was born in Kansas City, Missouri on February 27, 1924; and
WHEREAS, Bill
grew up in Independence, Missouri and attended William Chrisman High School and
then attended St. Benedicts College (now Benedictine University) for two years
before joining the U.S. Army to serve in World War II; and
WHEREAS, after
returning home from serving America in World War II, Bill attended Kansas State
College (now Kansas State University), and received a degree in Civil
Engineering in the winter of 1949 and went to work for Eby Construction Company
of Wichita, Kansas; and
WHEREAS, in
1953, Bill started to work for Clarkson Construction Company and retired in
1990; and
WHEREAS, soon
after his retirement, Bill was appointed to the Fairness in Construction Board,
which he retired from in 2007; and
WHEREAS, Bill
was married in 1950, is the proud father of 7 children and 22 grandchildren and
currently works for McGilley Funeral Homes which he has been a part of for 15
years; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council hereby recognize the dedication and hard work of Bill Markey to the
City of Kansas City, Missouri and the Fairness in Construction Board; and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Bill Markey with the
appreciation of the Mayor and Council for the time spent in community service.
