RESOLUTION NO. 100306

Congratulating Debra Churchill, City Market Property Manager, on being selected to receive the 2010 Produce Market Manager of the Year Award.

WHEREAS, the National Association of Produce Market Managers has selected Debra Churchill, Property Manager of The City Market, to receive the 2010 Produce Market Manager of the Year Award; and

WHEREAS, the National Association of Produce Market Managers, which has members in every state and numerous foreign countries, has bestowed an annual award since 1954 to honor a distinguished member of the Produce Market Industry for his/her contributions to their market over a period of several years; and

WHEREAS, recipients are selected for achievements in establishing a produce market’s success in financial management, promotion, programs, attendance and continuing viability; and

WHEREAS, under Debra Churchill’s five years of management, the City Market has reached a financial stability not previously seen; measured attendance has increased annually, now placing the Market among the top ten special attractions in the metropolitan area; and the City Market was named the top produce market in the state of Missouri. In addition, Ms. Churchill, who previously managed the Kemper Arena, used her background in events management to create a concert series that adds $50,000.00 to $90,000.00 to the annual budget and generates free spinoff publicity for the Market, allowing the Market to pursue its goals without the need for additional fundraising for baseline operations. An employee of Copaken, White & Blitt, Ms. Churchill’s community involvement extends beyond the City Market, as she currently serves as President of the River Market Community Association. NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate Debra Churchill, City Market Property Manager, on being selected to receive the 2010 Produce Market Manager of the Year Award; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Debra Churchill, in token of the high esteem and regard with which she is held by the Mayor and Council.
