RESOLUTION NO. 160768

 

Honoring the leadership and organization of Film Society KC for the success of the 2016 Kansas City End of CAPTURE Filmmaking Project and celebrating Film Society KC’s 25th year.

 

WHEREAS, the collective work of Film Society KC, KC Film Office, Missouri Film Office, and KC Digital Drive made the event possible; and

 

WHEREAS, CAPTURE brings together the creative power of the communities, joining community members with professional editors and musician/composers in a friendly competition between two gigabit cities, Chattanooga, Tennessee and Kansas City, Missouri that have the power to accomplish a feat of a bi-city film competition where clips are uploaded from both cities and streamed, downloaded and used by editors in each city; and

 

WHEREAS, the CAPTURE community filmmaking project gave citizens from Kansas City the opportunity to compete against citizens from Chattanooga to submit 5 thirty second films edited to make a judged short movie and Kansas City won “Best shot”; and

 

WHEREAS, Film Society KC exists to create a dynamic film culture in Kansas City by promoting and supporting local film makers and theaters, providing educational programs and events, and creating transformative movie experiences for film enthusiasts; and

 

WHEREAS, this year is the 25th anniversary of the Film Society KC, which was established in 1991 as the Film Society of Greater Kansas City by members of the film exhibition community to promote film-going and appreciation of filmmaking and has hosted hundreds of events and screenings for their members; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2014, the [ad hoc] Film Commission of Greater Kansas City merged with the Film Society to establish Film Society KC, a newly reinvigorated organization that will help support film-going and local filmmaking by continuing these member events and screenings; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate the organizers of CAPTURE in Kansas City; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Film Society KC congratulating them for 25 years of advocacy and support for the local film industry.
