RESOLUTION NO. 191004

 

Directing the City Manager to develop a City program to connect citizens, resources and volunteers that will assist with health, housing and other essential needs to maximize and utilize the resources within our community to enhance the quality of life for our citizens and families.

 

WHEREAS, there are numerous social service agencies that provide services to residents and citizens of Kansas City, Missouri; and

 

WHEREAS, violence and affordable housing are issues that require cooperation between our local government departments, the business sector, the faith community, cultural groups, philanthropic organizations, neighborhood organizations and our citizens; and

 

WHEREAS, many citizens ask how they can help; and

 

WHEREAS, the City can act as a central point to bring those organizations, groups and individuals together to improve the quality of life for our citizens and families; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

Section 1. That the City Manager is hereby directed to develop a program for implementation to connect citizens, resources and volunteers that will assist with health, housing and other essential needs to maximize and utilize the resources within our community to enhance the quality of life for our citizen and families.

 

Section 2. That the program may include the following: 

 

1.                  A page on the City’s website dedicated to social service issues;

 

2.                  An online resource of social service agencies on that webpage;

 

3.                  A volunteer page to allow citizens and residents to connect with volunteer opportunities throughout the City.

 

Section 3. That the City Manager is hereby directed to report back to the Neighborhood, Planning and Development Committee within ninety days of passage of this resolution.
