COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR RESOLUTION NO. 971232

 

Directing the City Manager to track revenues generated by the Convention and Entertainment Centers Department and make certain budgetary recommendations regarding the funding of the Department.

 

WHEREAS, the Convention Centers Implementation Committee has recommended that the City take steps to insure adequate funding for the Convention and Entertainment Centers Department and the Council wishes to adopt that recommendation; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

Section 1. That the City Manager is directed to track revenues generated by the Convention and Entertainment Centers Department from its convention and entertainment functions and to consider including in his recommended budget the following funding levels for the Department for operations and capital improvements for the next 5 years:

 

a. An amount equal to the revenues (including American Royal concessions, parking, miscellaneous revenue, video production services, suite rentals, advertising, American Royal Arena rentals, Governors' Building rentals, Kemper Arena rentals, American Royal Complex user fees, American Royal Complex telephone, other Auditorium rentals, Arena rentals, Exhibition Hall rentals, Music Hall rentals, Little Theatre rentals, committee room rentals, concessions, service contracts, catering fees, Bartle Hall rentals, electrical services, telephone services, plumbing services, miscellaneous rentals, advertising, Convention Center user fees, rental from parking, rentals from Kansas City, Missouri Public Building Authority, and any other revenues from new sources generated by the facilities) generated by the Department from its convention and entertainment functions, plus

 

b. No less than the current budgeted amount of subsidy from the General Fund and in an amount sufficient to allow appropriate staffing and improvements to the facility.
