RESOLUTION NO. 120097

 

Directing the City Manager to assist and encourage the Kansas City Police Department in the design, implementation and management of system to better share information with the Secondary Metal Recyclers.

 

WHEREAS, the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department has expressed interest in developing and maintaining a system of shared information with the Secondary Metal Recyclers: and

 

WHEREAS, the secondary metal recyclers ordinance was originally approved in 2008 and has been successful in combating the theft of ferrous and nonferrous metals by aiding the Secondary Metal Recyclers from purchasing any regulated metal property that has been stolen or is not authorized to be bought or sold in the city of Kansas City, Missouri: and

 

WHEREAS, after the passage of the secondary metal recycler ordinance the Secondary Metal Recyclers and the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department have worked together to combat the purchase and sale of regulated metal property or illegally obtained ferrous and nonferrous metals; and

 

WHEREAS, the Secondary Metal Recyclers have asked officials from the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department for an efficient system of information sharing which will give the Secondary Metal Recyclers another resource to combat the purchase of illegally obtained ferrous and nonferrous metals; and    

 

WHEREAS, if the Secondary Metal Recyclers are able to more effectively combat the illegal purchase of ferrous and nonferrous metals within the city of Kansas City, Missouri, it will largely benefit the citizens of Kansas City, Missouri by helping to reduce ferrous and nonferrous metal theft; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the City Manager is hereby directed to assist and encourage the Kansas City Police Department in the design, implementation and management of system to better share information with the Secondary Metal Recyclers.
