RESOLUTION NO. 080690

Expressing appreciation and that of the people of Kansas City to Millie Crossland on her departure and for her years of dedicated service to the people and government of Kansas City in performing a vital service for the government and governed.

WHEREAS, Millie Crossland began her career with Kansas City, Missouri with an internship in the City Planning and Development Department; and

WHEREAS, in June 1999 she joined Mayor Kay Barnes staff on her Neighborhood Advocate Team where she organized the Mayor's citywide Clean and Green litter pick-ups as part of the Keep Kansas City Beautiful program; and

WHEREAS, she played an instrumental role in the development of and community implementation of Mayor Barnes' ServiceFirst initiative; and

WHEREAS, Millie then went to work as Chief Deputy City Clerk in May 2003, and the City Council appointed her City Clerk in August 2003; and

WHEREAS, she brought ordinance records and the ordinance process into the 21st century by making records available electronically and the ordinance process paperless with LUSI, which eventually debuted on October 18, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Millie then brought "Video on Demand" to City Hall. This innovation made Kansas City one of the first city governments to make streaming videos of City Council activity accessible; and

WHEREAS, the cost savings of these innovations is unknown, but untold staff hours, reams of paper, energy consumption and vehicle emissions have been greatly reduced because people could view meetings, retrieve ordinances and track the ordinance process without having to leave their desks; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby express their sincere appreciation and that of the people of Kansas City to Millie Crossland on her departure and for her years of dedicated service to the people and government of Kansas City in performing a vital service for the government and governed; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof, and that a copy hereof be presented to Millie Crossland in token of the best wishes of the Mayor and Council for a continuation of an enriched career.
