RESOLUTION NO. 041008

 

Declaring Friday, September 10, 2004, as Guadalupe Centers Annual Blanco Y Negro Awards Gala Night.

 

WHEREAS, the Guadalupe Centers was established in 1919 to provide English classes and well-baby clinic services to the Mexican immigrants living on the westside of Kansas City, Missouri; and

 

WHEREAS, today the Guadalupe Centers now serve over 29,000 individuals throughout Greater Kansas City, Missouri, through advocacy, economic development, education, elderly services, youth, recreation and cultural events; and

WHEREAS, the City recognizes Honorable Governor Bob Holden, Christina Jasso, Ad 2 The Advertising Club of Kansas City, William Dunn, Sr., and Raul Yzaguirre for their outstanding commitment to the Greater Kansas City westside community and the Guadalupe Center; and

 

WHEREAS, these individuals, through the spirit of volunteering, fundraising and program development have enhanced the delivery of services to the Latino community and today such efforts can be seen in the success of the Guadalupe Centers; and

 

WHEREAS, the City further recognizes Ashley Nicole Delgado, Francisco G. Calderon, Davin Gordon, and Manuel Macias, Jr., for their educational attainments as well as their extracurricular activities that resulted in the receipt of the Tony Aguirre Scholarship; and

 

WHEREAS, the City must continue to search out innovative ways in which all can work in partnership with the Latino community to ensure that all Americans benefit from the resulting improvements; and

 

WHEREAS, the Guadalupe Centers annual Blanco Y Negro Awards Gala will honor the Hispanic community composed of persons of Mexican descent, as well as those from the Caribbean, Central America, South America, Spain and other Spanish-speaking areas of the world; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare Friday, September 10, 2004, as Guadalupe Centers 18th Annual Blanco Y Negro Awards Gala Night; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to Honorable Governor Bob Holden, Christina Jasso, Ad 2 The Advertising Club of Kansas City, William Dunn, Sr., Raul Yzaguirre, Ashley Nicole Delgado, Francisco G. Calderon, Davin Gordon and Manuel Macias, Jr. with the congratulations of the Mayor and Council and in recognition of their many accomplishments.
