RESOLUTION NO. 080941

 

Honoring Muna Lee for all of her hard work and training in making it to the Olympics in Beijing, China for Track & Field.

 

WHEREAS, Muna Lee represented the United States in the Olympics for the second time in her career where she ran in the womens 100m and 200m events; and

 

WHEREAS, Muna Lee is a 7-time national champion and a 20-time All American during her outstanding career at Louisiana State University; and

 

WHEREAS, Muna Lee qualified for the Games in the 100m by finishing first at U.S. Olympic Trials with a personal-best time of 10.85 seconds and eight days later qualified for Beijing in a second individual event by finishing as the runner-up in the 200m Trials; and

 

WHEREAS, during the Olympics, Muna Lee finished 4th in the 200m with a personal-best time of 22.01 seconds and she finished 5th in the 100m; and

 

WHEREAS, Muna Lee graduated from Central High School where she lettered 4 times in track and 3 times in basketball; and

 

WHEREAS, Muna Lee was one of the most sought after recruits in the nation when she ran the second fastest 100m dash time among American Juniors in 2000, clocking 11.36 at the Olympic Trials in Sacramento and was named the AAU Most Outstanding Athlete in 1999; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor Muna Lee for all of her hard work and training in making it to the Olympics in Beijing, China for Track & Field; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Muna Lee with the congratulations of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for a great job in representing the United States at the Olympics.
