RESOLUTION NO. 100132

 

Declaring that February 11, 2010, is Lauren Beth Dunleavy Day and that she is a “Kansas City hero”.

 

WHEREAS, Lauren Beth Dunleavy is recognized as an outstanding leader in the metropolitan Kansas City Childcare Community; and

 

WHEREAS, after beginning her career as a Home Economics teacher with focus on childhood development and nutrition she founded the Punkin Patch Childcare Center in 1982 to provide quality, affordable and accessible childcare to working parents which has become one of the premier centers for children and one of the first child development centers to be accredited, and for the past 28 years the Center, has maintained an on-going continuous and extensive waiting list; and

 

WHEREAS, Lauren is known for her leadership and management style, superb people skills and team building abilities; her ability to work with people was manifested by her work with more than 2800 Punkin Patch children, their families and the many organizations she was involved with and supported; and

 

WHEREAS, Lauren was co-founder of In the Company of Children, one of the first intergenerational centers in the area and served on the Kansas City Consensus Child Care Task Force where she also handled the unveiling of the Child Care report; and

 

WHEREAS, Lauren worked to achieve the recommendations in the Consensus Childcare Report with the Kauffman Foundation, as a member of the Junior League Childcare Priority Group, with UMKC and many others to secure and sustain a program that still goes on at Mid-America Regional Council today as the Metropolitan Council on Early Learning; and

 

WHEREAS, Lauren is duly recognized for her decades of groundbreaking work in the childcare arena and with the many people whose lives she touched; and that she is known as a “bridge builder” with her always positive attitude, smile and unwavering ability to help people; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare that February 11, 2010, is Lauren Beth Dunleavy Day and that she is a “Kansas City hero”; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Lauren Beth Dunleavy with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for her many years of dedication to the community and to improved childcare.
