RESOLUTION NO. 120209

 

Congratulating the ACE Robotic Scholars on receiving recognition for their research in ways to improve food safety.

 

WHEREAS, the ACE Robotic Scholars 6th grade team includes Robin Benefield, Anyse Cann, Zaria Johnson, Alicia McCoy, Alexis Mitchell, Cyrus Oliver, Devin Powell, Robert Rhodes, Malik Ross, Isis Thompson, Ma’Kese Wesley, and Angelica West; and

 

WHEREAS, these 6th graders invented a patent-pending UVC Light Sanitizing Lunchbox with the UVC light having a germicidal property that kills surface bacteria by not allowing the bacteria’s DNA to replicate which will keep kids safe when they eat their lunch; and

 

WHEREAS, the 6th grade ACE Robotic Scholars team was awarded the Champion’s Award pennant at the FIRST LEGO League Qualifying Tournament, advanced to the FLL Championship Tournament at Union Station and was awarded the Inspiration Championship trophy; and

 

WHEREAS, Ma’Kese Wesley and Isis Thompson were selected as Youth Ambassadors for the national Time Warner Cable campaign for child inventors, “Wouldn’t It Be Cool If…,” and represented the ACE robotic team’s invention in a public service announcement with WILL.I.AM from the Black Eyed Peas that aired on national Time Warner channels; and

 

WHEREAS, Ma’Kese Wesley and Isis Thompson went to Washington to represent their LEGO robotics team from the ACE Collegium Campus where they met and shook hands with the President of the United States at the White House Science Fair, and were featured on a national ABC news program, Yahoo!’s national website, and the White House public service announcement; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate the ACE Robotic Scholars on receiving recognition for their research in ways to improve food safety; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Robin Benefield, Anyse Cann, Zaria Johnson, Alicia McCoy, Alexis Mitchell, Cyrus Oliver, Devin Powell, Robert Rhodes, Malik Ross, Isis Thompson, Ma’Kese Wesley, and Angelica West with the best wishes of the Mayor and Council on their success now and in the future.
