RESOLUTION NO. 081228

Congratulating the Kansas City, Missouri Health Department on receiving accreditation by the Missouri Institute for Community Health.

WHEREAS, the Kansas City, Missouri Health Department was awarded accreditation by the Missouri Institute for Community Health (MICH) on Thursday, September 25, 2008, and renewed accreditation at the highest level available in the State of Missouri; and

WHEREAS, Kansas Citians have come to expect their public institutions and systems, such as hospitals, ambulance services and universities to meet standards that recognize quality principles and validate the use of public funds; and

WHEREAS, the Missouri Institute for Community Health awarded accreditation to the Health Department following a comprehensive review that incorporated an evaluation of 322 performance measures including core staffing and training, leadership skills, technical skills, and competencies, to excel in the practice and science of protecting the health of the public; and

WHEREAS, both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Association for County and City Health Officials have both recognized accreditation of health departments as a strategy to improve accountability and strengthen the governmental public health infrastructure; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby express their congratulations to the men and women of the Kansas City, Missouri Health Department, the Health Commission and community partners for achieving accreditation by the Missouri Institute of Community Health; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Dr. Rex Archer, on behalf of the Kansas City, Missouri Health Department, with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for the outstanding public health services provided to the community.
