RESOLUTION NO. 120475
Declaring
May 2012, as Preservation Month in Kansas City, Missouri.
WHEREAS, historic
preservation is an effective tool for managing growth and sustainable
development, revitalizing neighborhoods, fostering local pride and maintaining
community character while enhancing livability; and
WHEREAS, historic
preservation is relevant for communities across the nation, both urban and
rural, and for Americans of all ages, all walks of life and all ethnic
backgrounds; and
WHEREAS, it is
important to celebrate the role of history in our lives and the contributions
made by dedicated individuals in helping to preserve the tangible aspects of
the heritage that has shaped us as a people; and
WHEREAS,
"Discover America's Hidden Gems" is the theme for National
Preservation Month 2012, cosponsored by the City of Kansas City, Missouri and
the National Trust for Historic Preservation
BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council hereby declare May 2012, as National Historic Preservation Month,
and call upon the people of Kansas City to join their fellow citizens across
the United States in recognizing and participating in this special observance;
and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the President of the
Historic Kansas City Foundation, in token of the recognition of the City
Council as to the importance of historic preservation
