RESOLUTION NO. 091032
Recognizing
December 13, 2009, as Kansas City Zoo Day in Kansas City, Missouri.
WHEREAS, the Kansas City Zoo first opened its doors
to the public on December 13, 1909, and will be celebrating its 100 year
anniversary on that date by giving complimentary admission tickets which is
what the pricing for the Zoo originally was; and
WHEREAS,
on December 13, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. special activities will be
held at the Kansas City Zoo that will include a zoo history presentation in the
Zoo Lobby; and
WHEREAS, the
Kansas City Zoo entertained more than 500,000 visitors in 2009; and
WHEREAS, the
Kansas City Zoo educated more than 72,000 children from area schools; and
WHEREAS, the
Kansas City Zoo provides for the well-being of more than 1,000 animals; and
WHEREAS, the
Kansas City Zoo, through voluntary contributions and fundraising events, is
dedicated to conservation and research; and
WHEREAS, the
City of Kansas City, Missouri is similarly committed to the entertainment of
its residents, the education of its children, and understands the moral
responsibility to care for more than 1,000 animals; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize December
13, 2009, as Kansas City Zoo Day in Kansas City, Missouri; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be
spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy
hereof be presented to Randy Wisthoff, Zoo Director, in appreciation by the
Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for supporting educational programs
for the children in the community, enhancing the understanding of conservation
and research, entertaining the residents and visitors to the community and
caring for the animals.
