RESOLUTION NO. 060880

Reaffirming the Citys commitment to energy conservation and directing the City Manager to explore the continued use of energy conservation performance contracts for reduced energy costs at City-owned facilities which meet the criteria established by Missouri State statute for energy performance contracts.

WHEREAS, the City Council has authorized the Director of Public Works to enter into energy conservation performance contracts at various City-owned facilities of the Convention and Entertainment Centers Complex; and

WHEREAS, through these contracts, the City has implemented millions of dollars in facility improvements which are self-funding, has substantially reduced energy usage at those facilities, and exceeded savings guarantees, all to the benefit of Kansas City; and

WHEREAS, following adoption of Resolution No. 000417, the City has contracted for additional self-funding facilities improvements to reduce energy usage and improve the working environment for City employees at City Hall, the Communications Center, Municipal Court and Police Headquarters; and

WHEREAS, this type of contract provides for guaranteed reduced energy costs at these facilities; and

WHEREAS, this type of contract should be further utilized with City departments including: Public Works, Water Services, Aviation, Convention and Entertainment Centers, and Parks and Recreation, to reduce energy costs at facilities operated by these departments; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the City Manager is directed to take all actions necessary to implement energy performance contracting within the departments noted herein, to reduce energy costs at City-owned facilities, as soon as is possible.
