RESOLUTION NO. 200295

 

Honoring Billy Birmingham, EMT.

WHEREAS Kansas City firefighters are on the front lines of the COVID-19 battle in Kansas City, and have been since March 12, 2020, when Mayor Quinton Lucas declared a state of emergency in the city; and

 

WHEREAS, Kansas City EMT Billy Birmingham continued his dedication to our great city at his job, putting others before himself in the COVID-19 fight; and

 

WHEREAS, Kansas City EMT Billy Birmingham contracted COVID-19 while on the job as an EMT; and

 

WHEREAS, Kansas City EMT Billy Birmingham died in the line of duty on April 13, 2020; and

 

WHEREAS, Billy Birmingham’s death marks the first death of a City employee from COVID-19; and

 

WHEREAS, Billy Birmingham was part of the KCFD family for 10 years, starting at KCFD in 2010; and

 

WHEREAS, Billy Birmingham was part of the MAST family for many years prior to joining the KCFD family starting there in 1998; and

 

WHEREAS, Billy Birmingham’s passing represents a personal loss to all at the KCFD who knew him and cherished both his friendship and professionalism; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Kansas City turned on the Firefighter’s Fountain and Memorial at Pennsylvania and 31st Street on April 15, 2020, in honor of Billy Birmingham’s life and service; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor Billy Birmingham; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be delivered to the family of Billy Birmingham with the heartfelt condolences of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for this loss to our community.
