RESOLUTION NO. 100183

 

Congratulating the hard work of City staff and MARC in the TIGER Grant application which successfully received $50 million in grant money from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

 

WHEREAS, the City of Kansas City, Missouri through collaborating with the Mid-America Regional Council (“MARC”); KCATA; KCT; the Port Authority; Johnson County, Kansas; and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County, Kansas City, Kansas; submitted the TIGER (“Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery”) grant application to the U.S. Department of Transportation. The U.S. Department of Transportation reviewed more than 1,457applications, $59.07 billion of requested funding from 50 states before selecting 51 winning projects for the $1.6 billion TIGER grant; and

 

WHEREAS, The TIGER submittal is a five part submittal from MARC, which includes light rail and KC Transit Corridors by Mark Huffer and Dick Jarrold from KCATA; Front Street improvements by Jerry Craft, Chuck Mader, Allison Bergman, Margaret Fitzgerald of KC Terminal, as well as Greg Gehrig and Vincent P. Gauthier from the Port Authority; Bike/Ped by Deb Ridgway, Shannon Jaax, and Patty Hilderbrand of the City Planning and Development Department; and the Green Impact Zone by Greg Rokos, Wei Sun, Gnani Mahalingam, Russi Bhesania, and Maria Stimach from the Public Works Department as well as Traci Gleason of the City Council’s Office, Greg Williams from the City Manager’s Office and Tom Gerend, Mell Henderson, Ron Achelpohl, and Karen Clawson from MARC; and

 

WHEREAS, The Kansas City Region’s TIGER grant application was awarded $50 million by the U.S. Department of Transportation on February 17, 2010. The $50 million TIGER grant is projected to create over 4,000 construction jobs which is an important economic boost to the whole metropolitan area; and

 

WHEREAS, the Green Impact Zone which is a 150-square block area in the urban core of Kansas City, Missouri and KC Transit Corridor which invests in regional transit corridors are the two parts of the regional application that successfully received TIGER grant funding; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate the hard work of City staff and MARC in the TIGER Grant application which successfully received $50 million in grant money from the U.S. Department of Transportation, and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the City Staff with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for the hard work and dedication to the community.
