RESOLUTION NO. 910695

Expressing support for the designation of the South Riverfront Expressway as a demonstration project in the new federal highway bill and support of a new federal allocation formula.

..P

WHEREAS, reauthorization to the Federal Highway and Mass Transportation Program is currently pending before Congress; and

WHEREAS, the House Committee on Public Works and Transportation has jurisdiction over highway and mass transit programs; and

WHEREAS, the House Committee on Public Works and

Transportation is currently reviewing the Bush Administration proposal for a new national highway program; and

WHEREAS, consideration of a new federal formula would allocate to the State of Missouri its fair share of federal highway funds and increase the ability of the State to construct public highways; and

WHEREAS, the construction of the South Riverfront Expressway offers certain benefits to the City, including removal of truck traffic from heavily overloaded residential streets, improving access to industrial areas in the Missouri Riverfront, removal of traffic from congested I-70 and enhancement of development efforts in the Little Blue River Valley; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby express their support for the designation of the South Riverfront Expressway as a demonstration project in the proposed new federal highway bill and their support of a new federal allocation formula which would benefit the State of Missouri as a whole.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be directed to the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Works and Transportation.
