RESOLUTION NO. 120896

 

Recognizing Eugene Standifer, Jr., for his commitment to the citizens of Jackson County as the 2nd District Legislative Representative.

 

WHEREAS, Eugene Standifer Jr., a lifelong resident of Jackson County and the 2nd District, was appointed to the Legislature in 2005 to fill the unexpired term representing the 2nd District; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Standifer has shared his leadership abilities by serving as the Chair of the Inter-Governmental Affairs Committee and a member of the Finance, Anti-Drug, Health and Justice, and Public Works Committees of the Legislature; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Standifer is a graduate of Lincoln High School and earned a Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Arts degree from Rockhurst University with an emphasis in accounting and economics; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Standifer proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Standifer retired from the Federal government after 41 years of service where he worked for the General Service Administration, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Department of Labor and the United States Postal Service; and

 

WHEREAS, after his retirement, he served as a member of the Kansas City Board of Election Commissioners for 8 years; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Standifer was an active member of his church, St. Monica’s Catholic Church where he served as a Knight of Peter Claver; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize Eugene Standifer, Jr., for his selfless dedication to the residents of the 2nd District and Jackson County as a whole; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Arimeta Standifer in token of the high esteem with which Eugene Standifer was held by the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City.
