RESOLUTION NO. 061088

 

Honoring the Jackson County Safe Family Coalition for its dedicated service to the community.

 

WHEREAS, the Jackson County Safe Family Coalition was formed in 2001 by a multi-disciplinary task group charged with raising public awareness of the co-occurrence of domestic violence and child abuse; providing direction and expertise to improve the coordination of response to child abuse and domestic violence in the courts with law enforcement and service providers; addressing gaps in the available services for families of domestic violence; and

 

WHEREAS, the Jackson County Safe Family Coalition member agencies report that in 2005 thirteen individuals died as a result of domestic violence in Kansas City; an average of 14 people per day were arrested in Kansas City for domestic violence; and 22,766 hotline calls were placed to member agencies in the metropolitan area; and

 

WHEREAS, the Jackson County Safe Family Coalition has steadfastly supported the efforts of its 28 member agencies in raising community awareness of the co-occurrence of domestic violence and child abuse as an essential community service, and has successfully garnered support and involvement from the Healthcare Foundation of Greater Kansas City, Jacob L. and Ella C. Loose Foundation, Heart of America United Way, the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, Jackson County Circuit Court, Jackson County Family Court, Kansas City Municipal Court, and the Kansas City Police Department; and

 

WHEREAS, the Jackson County Safe Family Coalition has placed a priority upon changing policy and practice concerning the co-occurrence of domestic violence and child abuse through a coordinated and integrated community response that will provide safety, enhance well-being, and provide stability for children and families; and

 

WHEREAS, the Jackson County Safe Family Coalition, assisted by its staff, Donna Bushur, Coordinator, Jennifer Stallbaumer-Rouyer, Audit Coordinator, and Dr. Christine Rinck, Evaluator, continues to provide community leadership through its effort to reduce the co-occurrence of domestic violence and child abuse; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor the Jackson County Safe Family Coalition for its dedicated service to the community; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Jackson County Safe Family Coalition with the congratulations of the Mayor and Council for its dedication to increasing public awareness of domestic violence and its dedication to fostering cooperation and coordination between community service providers and the criminal justice system, and its contribution to improving the quality of life in Kansas City.
