RESOLUTION NO. 100917

 

Recognizing Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, 4205 Tracy Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri on the occasion of their 125th Anniversary.

 

WHEREAS on October 29, 1885, the official date of the organization of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, had its beginning in a framed building at 16th and Cherry Streets; constructed in 1895 a brick Gothic style church that served the congregation for 36 years until it built a new limestone sanctuary at the present location; and

WHEREAS Immanuel Lutheran Church through the faithful pastoral leadership of the Reverends E. Jehn, L. T. Swartz, T. A. Weinhold, K. Klockau, E. Bielefeld, A.E. Engler, C, Koenig, E. Daugherty and presently James Dunn has faithfully served God and the community through the provision of worship, Christian education and social service; and

WHEREAS Immanuel maintained a Christian Day School until 1981 at which time it partnered with Neighborhood Housing Service to convert the building into affordable rental units that still provide low-income housing; and

WHEREAS Immanuel has served its members and the community as an anchor within the Manheim Park Neighborhood by providing a Well Child Clinic and Prenatal Clinic in partnership with Kansas City, Missouri Health Department for several years, developed a food bank in partnership with Metropolitan Lutheran Ministry which has become Harvesters, hosted the Metropolitan Lutheran Ministry Christmas Store for many years; and

WHEREAS Immanuel presently continues to serve the needs of the community by providing a food pantry, hosts the Manheim Park Neighborhood Association meetings, and actively participating in the association with its efforts to revitalize the neighborhood; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, 4205 Tracy Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri on the occasion of their 125th Anniversary; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Pastor James Dunn and Carl Hepting, Chairman of the Congregation, with the congratulations of the Mayor and Council to Immanuel Lutheran Church on the occasion of its 125th Anniversary and recognizing the contributions it has made in the past and present to the citizens of this City with appreciation.
