RESOLUTION NO. 061050

 

Honoring Gail M. Roper on her many years of dedicated services to the Information Technology Department of the City of Kansas City, Missouri.

 

WHEREAS, Gail Roper has served Kansas City for more than 10 years starting as the Deputy Director of Information Technology becoming Director of Information Technology and in January 2004, accepting the position of Chief Information Officer for Kansas City; and

 

WHEREAS, Gail Roper has worked hard to establish Kansas City as an innovative City nationally and internationally and has been invited to present, as a keynote speaker, at national and international conferences; and

 

WHEREAS, Gail Roper has received many distinguished awards throughout the years including the Technology Leadership Award, the In the Arena Leadership
Award, the Government Technology Magazines award for the nations Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers and she has also contributed to many national publications focusing on the strategic deployment of technology; and

 

WHEREAS, over the years, Gail Roper has streamlined the governance process for technology projects, established project management guidelines and procedures and formulated the overall technology strategy for the City; and

 

WHEREAS, Gail Roper has implemented the PBX phone system, the wide-area network that all City agencies use, mapping diagrams of the Citys internal and external networks, Blackberry service/servers, VPN access for off-site access to City network, moving from mainframe applications to web-based applications, partnered with Finance and Human Resources Departments to bring an ERP system that replaced the financial system and payroll system, offered wireless hotspots to several downtown City facilities and parks, lead the City in the development of a conduit bank in the arena area and began the Citys first strategy for broadband; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor Gail M. Roper on her many years of dedicated services to the Information Technology Department of the City of Kansas City, Missouri; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Gail M. Roper in token of the Mayor and Councils deep respect and appreciation for a job well done and wishing her the best of luck in her new position.
