RESOLUTION NO. 911421

Urging the Missouri General Assembly to enact legislation lowering the minimum age for qualification for service as a juror from 21 to 18 years of age.

WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 494.425, RSMo Supp. 1990, persons less than 21 years of age are disqualified from services as grand and petit jurors in the State of Missouri; and

WHEREAS, the City Council believes that allowing 18 year olds to serve on juries would increase the available juror pool, thus making it more likely that jury venires assigned to individual cases represent a fair cross-section of the community; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the City Council urges the Missouri General Assembly to enact legislation lowering the minimum age for qualification for service as a juror from 21 to 18 years of age.
