RESOLUTION NO. 080658

Directing the City Manager to create a planning process for museums and their residential neighborhoods during periods of museum development and expansion.

WHEREAS, Kansas City has a wealth of museums and other cultural attractions that are essential to the vitality of the City; and

WHEREAS, Kansas Citys neighborhoods provide a key voice and expertise to Kansas Citians quality of life; and

WHEREAS, many of our museums are privately funded and could not exist without the generous support of our citizens and other residents of metropolitan Kansas City; and

WHEREAS, while the City wants to do everything possible to help sustain these attractions, we recognize that the construction or expansion of these facilities in residential areas can be detrimental to neighborhoods if not properly planned; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY;

That the Mayor and Council hereby direct the City Manager to create a process that will allow participation of the neighborhoods and City staff with the developers in the planning of the development or expansion of museums in residential neighborhoods
