RESOLUTION NO. 100043

 

Honoring the Kansas City Free Health Clinic for the 2-Day Free Health Clinic for the Uninsured on December 9-10, 2009.

 

WHEREAS, on December 9-10, 2009, the Kansas City Free Health Clinic coordinated with the National Association of Free Clinics and Kansas City area health organizations and safety-net providers to put on the C.A.R.E. Clinic (Communities Are Responding Everyday) which was a two-day free health clinic for the uninsured; and

 

WHEREAS, the C.A.R.E. Clinic was for uninsured individuals in the region who need medical care and are also given assistance in connecting with local resources that provide ongoing medical care; and

 

WHEREAS, in order for the C.A.R.E. Clinic to work, doctors, nurses, emergency medical technicians and medical administrators volunteer their time as well as non-medical volunteers help with documentation, logistical support, patient intake and translation and assisting with follow-up appointments at local safety-net clinics; and

 

WHEREAS, during the two day event the free clinic saw 2,233 patients and had more than 2,206 volunteers including 111 providers and 25 specialists; and

 

WHEREAS, the Kansas City event provided services which included general medicine, chiropractic, podiatry, dermatology, orthopedics, allergy, pediatrics, behavioral health, psychiatry, gynecology, rheumatology, colorectal, pulmonology, and social services referrals; and

 

WHEREAS, in Missouri and Kansas there are at least a dozen free clinics and these clinics over the past years have seen their patient numbers increase by 40-50%; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate the Kansas City Free Health Clinic for the 2-Day Free Health Clinic for the Uninsured on December 9-10, 2009; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Sheri Wood, Kansas City Free Health Clinic, with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for the dedication of the numerous volunteers in serving the uninsured population of our community.
