RESOLUTION NO. 170140

 

Honoring Jocelyn Ball-Edson on her retirement after 21 years of service to the Parks and Recreation Department.

 

WHEREAS, March 1, 2017, marks the end of a 21 year KC Parks career and the start of a new adventure called “Retirement” for Senior Landscape Architect Jocelyn Ball-Edson; and

 

WHEREAS, Jocelyn studied art, history, and languages at the University of California in both Santa Cruz and Los Angeles and spent time traveling through the US, Europe, Central and South America before completing her Bachelor’s degrees in fine arts and landscape architecture from Rhode Island School of Design; and

 

WHEREAS, since joining the KC Parks Department in October of 1995, Jocelyn has worked on numerous parks and environmental related projects but has taken a particular interest in the City’s fountains and monuments and has managed over 90 monument and fountain restoration projects ranging from cleaning and conservation of small bronze plaques to the complete restoration of several of the City’s major fountains; and

 

WHEREAS, Jocelyn is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects and is recognized by her peers as a subject matter expert and has written several articles for trade publications regarding designing, maintaining, and preserving public fountains and monuments. Some of her professional accomplishments over the last decade include: locating the missing 4th Dolphin piece of the JC Nichols Fountain in 2008, working on the procurement of that piece in 2010 and installation of that restored piece for fountain day 2015, presenting Preserving Historic Monuments and Fountains in Kansas City at the National Archives in 2014, making presentations and leading tours as part of the National Parks Service’s National Center for Preservation Technology and Training conferences conducted in Kansas City in 2013 and 2015, and working extensively with our partner, the City of Fountains Foundation, in their successful efforts toward the “Adopt a Monument” and “Wish Upon a Fountain” campaigns; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor Jocelyn Ball-Edson on her retirement after 21 years of service to the Parks and Recreation Department; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Jocelyn Ball-Edson with the thanks of the Mayor and Council for her many years of service and their wishes for a very happy retirement.
