RESOLUTION NO. 190446

 

Recognizing the Westport Neighborhood Plan as a neighborhood level analysis to provide more specific planning goals and guidance for the area generally bounded by W. 39th Street to the north, Main Street on the east, W. 43rd Street on the south and Southwest Trafficway to the west.

 

WHEREAS, Committee Substitute for Ordinance No. 170776, As Amended, directed the City Planning and Development Department to participate in a community planning process led by the Westport Regional Business League and Historic Kansas City to help guide future development in the Westport area; and

 

WHEREAS, the Westport Planning Committee met at least ten times to target a specific direction for the Westport area including design, density, historic resources and parking, and three public open houses were conducted to gain additional input from more community stakeholders; and

 

WHEREAS, the Westport Neighborhood Plan outlines a number of implementation projects, including an amendment to the Midtown/Plaza Area Plan to include a neighborhood plan for Westport, proactive rezoning of certain areas, and overlay districts for the neighborhoods and certain corridors; and

 

WHEREAS, the City Plan Commission considered and recommended approval of the Westport Neighborhood Plan on May 21, 2019; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

Section A. That the Westport Neighborhood Plan is hereby recognized as a guide for the future development and redevelopment for that area generally bounded by W. 39th Street to the north, Main Street on the east, W. 43rd Street to the south and Southwest Trafficway to the west. A copy of the Westport Neighborhood Plan, in substantial form, is attached hereto.

 

Section B. That the Council commends the planning process participants for their hard work on the Westport Neighborhood Plan and their dedication to improving the quality of live for the residents of Kansas City.
