RESOLUTION NO. 080317

 

Supporting efforts for an EPA research project on green solutions to be located in Kansas City; expressing the Citys intent to partner with the successful applicant and furnish in-kind services.

 

WHEREAS, the Environmental Protection Agency announced a research project to demonstrate the effectiveness of integrated, green infrastructure solutions for wet weather issues; and

 

WHEREAS, this project will focus on urban core neighborhoods drained by a combined sewer system with an objective of quantifying the results of low impact development on receiving streams; and

 

WHEREAS, the results will be presented at the Environmental and Water Resources Institutes Symposium on Urban Watershed Management that will be held in Kansas City and at other conferences; and

 

WHEREAS, Kansas City has begun implementing green solutions and it is critical that we be able to measure the impacts of various green solutions as soon as possible in order to determine the best green solutions for Kansas City; and

 

WHEREAS, this demonstration project is an ideal opportunity for Kansas City to get a head start in quantifying the benefits of our green solutions initiatives; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That Kansas City wholeheartedly supports efforts to locate in Kansas City the Environmental Protection Agencys research project on quantifying the impact of green solutions in urban areas; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Kansas City expresses its intent to partner, through the Water Services and Parks and Recreation Departments, with a successful proposer who locates the project to Kansas City and furnish in-kind services where possible.
