RESOLUTION NO. 061100

Recognizing October 2006 as Energy Awareness Month.

WHEREAS, energy use and consumption is vital to the vitality and health of all citizens of Kansas City; and

WHEREAS, the Nation has recognized and celebrated efficient use of energy for sixteen years; and

WHEREAS, the availability of affordable energy can only be assured by a conscious effort to use energy sparingly and safely; and

WHEREAS, Missouri imports over 85 percent of its energy annually, thereby making Missouri citizens vulnerable to energy price spikes; and

WHEREAS, inefficient use of energy results in harmful by-products forced into the environment; and

WHEREAS, affordable energy has a major impact on low-income households and on the economic health of neighborhoods; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize October 2006 as National Energy Awareness month; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Missouri Public Service Commission, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Energy Center, the Kansas City Power & Light Company, the Missouri Gas Energy, Jackson County Executive Kathryn Shields and Governor Matt Blunt with the Mayor and Council urging all citizens to inform themselves on opportunities to save energy and use energy as efficiently as possible.
