ORDINANCE NO. 150649

Repealing Section 2-49, Code of Ordinances, entitled Order of succession of elected officials, and enacting a new Section 2-49, entitled Order of succession of elected officials to reflect the Council’s organization beginning August 1, 2015.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

Section 1. That Section 2-49, Code of Ordinances, is repealed and a new Section 2-49 is enacted, to read as follows:

Sec. 2-49. Order of succession of elected officials.

(a)    Absence of Mayor. If there is no mayor or if the mayor is out of the city or otherwise incapacitated, the mayor pro tem, shall act as mayor until the mayor resumes the duties of the office or until that office is filled in accordance with the City Charter and state law.

(b)   Absence of Mayor and Mayor pro tem. If there is no mayor pro tem or if the mayor pro tem is out of the city or otherwise incapacitated, the chairs of the following committees shall, in the following order of succession, act as mayor until the mayor and mayor pro tem resume the duties of their office or until the office is filled.

(1)               Finance & Governance

(2)               Transportation & Infrastructure

(3)               Planning, Zoning & Economic Development

(4)               Neighborhoods & Public Safety

(5)               Ethics & Legal Review

(6)               Legislative

(7)               Airport

(8)               Housing

(9)               Small Business, Entrepreneurship, & Jobs

(10)           Youth Development
