RESOLUTION NO. 010723
Congratulating Ginny and
Dean Graves as the recipients of the 2001 Dr. George Ehrlich Achievement in
Preservation Award.
WHEREAS, the
Landmarks Commission of Kansas City, Missouri, created the Dr. George Ehrlich
Achievement in Preservation Award to be given to those individuals or groups
whose contributions constitute a record of achievement in the field of
preservation; and
WHEREAS, this
award shall be conferred as appropriate during National Historic Preservation
Week, which this year is May 13-19; and
WHEREAS, the
Landmarks Commission on March 23, 2001, voted unanimously to nominate Ginny and
Dean Graves as the recipients of the 2001 Ehrlich Award; and
WHEREAS, during
their years of work in historic preservation education and through their
creation of the Center for the Built Environment, Ginny and Dean Graves have
worked tirelessly to bring preservation and architecture into the everyday
classroom and into the lives of those who would not traditionally be involved
with these topics; and
WHEREAS, Ginny
and Dean Graves were the principal instigators of a program called Teach the
Teachers, implemented by American Institute of Architects Missouri, Kansas City
and St. Louis chapters, that is recognized by the National Endowment for the
Arts as one of the ten model built environment education programs in the United
States; and
WHEREAS, Ginny
and Dean Graves have co-authored many articles and publications on historic
preservation, including four nationally known curriculum resources for youth, Walk
Around the Block, Box City, Community Connection and Picture
This; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council hereby congratulate Ginny and Dean Graves as the recipients of the
2001 Dr. George Ehrlich Achievement in Preservation Award; and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to Ginny and Dean Graves with
the congratulations and appreciation of the Mayor and Council for their
outstanding contributions to the preservation of the built environment of
Kansas City, Missouri.
