RESOLUTION NO. 061365

 

Saluting the Municipal Arts Commission upon the 20th anniversary of the One Percent for Art Program.

 

WHEREAS, the Kansas City Council unanimously approved Ordinance No. 60321, establishing the Public Art Fund for the receipt of contributions and appropriations for the aesthetic adornment of public buildings and property in Kansas City, Missouri, on December 11, 1986; and

 

WHEREAS, this ordinance provided consistent funding for the One Percent for Art Program, which allots one percent of the estimated design and construction budget for City buildings to the creation of unique works of art related to the project under the administration of the Kansas City Municipal Arts Commission; and

 

WHEREAS, the One Percent for Art Program has brought public art to community centers and other public buildings throughout the City, as well as allowing the creation of some of Kansas Citys most recognizable public artwork, including R.M. Fishers Sky Stations at Bartle Hall and native Kansas Citian Robert Morris Bull Wall at the American Royal; and

 

WHEREAS, the One Percent for Art Program has given both citizens of and visitors to Kansas City access to world-class public art for two decades; and

 

WHEREAS, the One Percent for Art Program has contributed to Kansas Citys reputation as one of the nations top ten art destinations, affirming the Citys status as an Art City; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby salute and recognize the One Percent for Art Program and the Citys continued commitment to a rich and varied public art collection for all of its citizens and visitors; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Municipal Arts Commission with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for their support and oversight of the One Percent for Art Program.
