RESOLUTION NO. 020714

 

Declaring June 8, 2002, as Samuel U. Rodgers Community Health Center Annual City-Wide Health Fair Day.

 

WHEREAS, the Samuel U. Rodgers Community Health Center was founded in 1968 and is the oldest community health center in the State of Missouri; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1985, Samuel U. Rodgers Community Health Center became involved with the health fair with only 350 people attending. Over the past sixteen years, the health fair has grown to serve more than 5,000 residents in a single day event; and

 

WHEREAS, over seventy agencies will participate in providing health care screenings, family activities, Kids Korner, safety tips and equipment for children, entertainment-Talent Showcase and education and this year the health fair will take place on the grounds of the Center at 825 Euclid; and

 

WHEREAS, the mission of the Samuel U. Rodgers Community Health Center is to provide high quality, compassionate health care to the people of the greater Kansas City area and surrounding communities without regard to ability to pay; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare June 8, 2002, as Samuel U. Rodgers Community Health Center Annual City-Wide Health Fair Day; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Benjamin F. Pettus, Jr., Executive Director, and Nina Howard, Director of Community Relations and Health Fairs, with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for making health care a number one priority in our community.
