RESOLUTION NO. 080864

 

Honoring W. Ruth Turner for her 21 years of dedicated service to the City of Kansas City, Missouri.

 

WHEREAS, Ruth received her B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Kansas and is studying for her Master of Urban Planning; Ruth also attended Sheffield School of the Bible from 1997 to 2000, and the NFBPA Executive Leadership Institute from 2001 to 2002; and

 

WHEREAS, Ruth began her career with the City in 1987 as a Utility Trainee with the Wastewater Treatment Division in the Water Services Department, then becoming a Field Engineer, and Project Manager in other areas within the Department; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1997, Ruth led organizational change initiatives, Competitive 2001 Program, within the Department; and

 

WHEREAS, Ruth went on to become the Optimization Program Manager in 2000 of the WSD Kansas City Government Optimization Program, then the Manager of Planning, Design, and Construction within the Stormwater Utility Division prior to becoming the Division Manager of Facilities Engineering in Water Services in December 2004; and

 

WHEREAS, as president and founder of From Glory 2 Glory, Inc., a Kansas City faith-based organization, Ruth works to transform the spiritual, social and economic conditions of communities through leadership empowerment; and

 

WHEREAS, Ruth is a licensed engineer, an ordained minister, and member of several technical and professional organizations and holds awards and recognition for performance and program achievement throughout her career in public service; and

 

WHEREAS, Ruths 21 years of public service in the areas of engineering, project and program management, strategic planning, organizational development, supervision and administration have proven valuable to the quality of life of residents within the Kansas City metro area; and

 

WHEREAS, Ruth is the proud mother of Richard II and Portia Turner; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby extend to Ms. W. Ruth Turner, on the occasion of leaving the City, the heartiest best wishes for her future, together with appreciation for her 21 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Kansas City; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Ms. W. Ruth Turner in token of their respect and high regard and their best wishes for the long and happy future which she so richly deserves.
