RESOLUTION NO. 200291
Declaring April
16, 2020, as a Day of Giving and encouraging those that
are able to donate to the Kansas City COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund.
WHEREAS, on March 12, 2020, a Proclamation of a State of Emergency
was issued by Mayor Lucas “to allow the City of Kansas City to take measures to
reduce the possibility of exposure to COVID-19 and promote the health and
safety of Kansas City residents”; and
WHEREAS, on March 16, 2020, Mayor Lucas updated the Proclamation
to limit gatherings to fewer than 10 people and, with the support of school
superintendents, to temporarily cease school operations; and
WHEREAS, on March 24th, Mayor Lucas announced a Stay-at-Home order
that further updated the emergency declaration to prohibit non-essential
activities, which concurrently extended school closings; and
WHEREAS, on April 16th,
Mayor Lucas extended the Stay-at-Home order to May 15th at the recommendation of
public health officers and directors in the
nine-county Kansas City metro; and
WHEREAS, the COVID-19 pandemic and the closing of schools and
businesses have impacted individuals and businesses in Kansas City; and
WHEREAS, the Kansas City COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund was
established to respond to the needs of those impacted in the Kansas City
Metropolitan area; and
WHEREAS, the United Way of Kansas City along with local charities,
business and government officials are recognizing Thursday, April 16, 2020, as
a Day of Giving and Kansas City’s local
broadcasters are joining today for OneKC, as part of a Day of Giving; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby declare April 16, 2020, as a Day
of Giving in Kansas City and encourage those that can to donate to the Kansas
City COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund, OneKC or a charity of their choice;
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the
Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof.
